The AOD Treatment Services team is comprised of a diverse range of roles and skillsets and works together under the Shared Care health framework. This supportive and friendly team offer a holistic, social model of health care with the aim of addressing health inequities experienced by people who use drugs. The service is confidential, innovative, responsive and based on a harm reduction and recovery framework encompassing community development principles aimed at the empowerment and education of people who use drugs, to support them to making informed decisions about their health.
About the role
The Non-Residential Withdrawal Nurse's role will be to provide advice and psychoeducation for clients considering detox as well as support appropriate clients to safely achieve a non-residential detox in their homes or other suitable places. The role will work with in collaboration with clients pre and post detox, offering health & psychosocial interventions in coordination with other medical staff such as GP's.
To be suitable for the role you will ideally possess the following:
- Division 1 Registered Nurse eligible for registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and have an understanding of independent nursing practice;
- Knowledge of principles of prevention and harm minimisation as these relate to alcohol and other drug use;
- Demonstrated understanding of the clinical nursing requirements for drug and alcohol withdrawal;
- Demonstrated proficiency in providing person-centred AOD withdrawal services including clinical assessment, care planning, interventions, and risk assessment;
- Demonstrated proficiency in working with clients presenting with dual diagnosis;
- Capacity to provide AOD interventions within the context of substance reduction, cessation and recovery philosophy;
- Person-centred skills and a genuine interest in working with our client group; and
- Willingness to participate in regular individual and group based clinical supervision.
