About Yarra Drug and Health Forum

Yarra Drug and Health Forum is an unincorporated community organisation which has been operating in the City of Yarra for over 25 years as a community-based response to local drug issues. YDHF is widely recognised as the foremost community-based forum that works with a broad range of stakeholders to reduce drug related harms in the City of Yarra.

The Forum's vision is for the community not to be harmed by drug use and for drug related stigma and discrimination to be eliminated. The Forum provides a platform to initiate and engage with the Yarra community in seeking grass roots solutions to drug-related issues. Underpinning this approach is strong community engagement and advocacy work.

About the role

The Executive Officer is central to YDHF achieving its goals through leading the work in a range of activities and fostering constructive discussions between stakeholders. Working closely with the Executive Committee, the Executive Officer will identify strategies to reduce drug related harms to individuals and minimise the impact on the community.

YDHF is auspiced by cohealth to enable and support the employment of the Executive Officer. The position operates as a hybrid position, based at a cohealth community health site within the City of Yarra.

Your duties include:

  • Engage with community members and other stakeholders to encourage open dialogue about alcohol and other drug issues within the City of Yarra
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders and facilitate the involvement and participation of both existing and potential members of the Forum in its events, activities, and projects
  • Lead collaborative work across sectors and with individual agencies and community members to address local concerns relating to alcohol and other drug activity and advocate for innovative practices and services to meet identified service gaps

Our ideal candidate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in health sciences, social work or equivalent field or demonstrated equivalent experience and skills
  • Extensive experience in working with, and to, a Board and/or community led management structures
  • Experience in leading and implementing strategic planning

All appointments are made subject to a satisfactory Police Check, a Working With Children Check (WWCC), complete a Pre-Employment Declaration Form, evidence of legal rights to work in Australia, and evidence of vaccination against COVID-19 (3 doses).

Successful applicants will be required to provide evidence of immunisation assessment including Influenza within 12 weeks of commencement [B]. This is in accordance with the Victorian Minister of Health Mandatory Vaccination Orders for COVID-19 and legislated requirement for influenza vaccination.
