About the role
This position sits within the AOD and Homelessness Cluster. The Cluster delivers value-based care through codesign and by developing the capacity and capability for teams to work to the top of their scope of practice and in self-organising ways.
The AOD and Homelessness Cluster aims to improve the health, wellbeing, housing and social outcomes of people who use alcohol and other drugs and/or those experiencing homelessness in the Inner North West of Melbourne. The Cluster delivers a human rights approach to health care which reduces harms, is trauma informed, consumer directed, holistic, recovery and strengths based

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Worker engages and develops relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people with complex physical health and social support needs who face significant barriers to accessing services. The support provided to the client group includes engagement, intake, assessment, interim response and service linkages, case management, care planning with tailored psychosocial and health supports to individuals and discharge planning both through site based and assertive outreach activities
The primary responsibilities of the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Engagement Worker are to:
- Work together with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to participate in community engagement activities;
- Provide trauma informed case management to victims of violent crime, particularly those of a serious and/or complex nature;
- Provide case management (including outreach) to ‘related victims' of homicide;
- Provide psycho-education to victims, police and the community;
- Support victims of crime to effectively navigate the criminal justice system; and
- Work collaboratively with the police and other service delivery agencies

Key selection criteria:
- Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent. Upon confirmation of employment we will require a Confirmation of Aboriginality;
- Case management and casework experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients;
- An understanding of what's important for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by crime;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (verbal and written);
- Highly developed work organisation skills with the capacity to prioritise competing demands;
- Demonstrated information technology and computer skills; and
- A current Victorian Driver's License.
